One 2 Go - Race # 11 - 80's Night w/ NEAR & Street Stock Showdown Series

8/31/2017

Picture
The 80’s. The greatest decade ever! Nintendo, MTV, Indiana Jones, Apple, boom boxes, and the list goes on and on. We celebrate the decade as the New England Antique Racers bring their vintage race cars back to familiar haunts as many of those machines will be making their return to what was once Fleury Farm.

In addition to the drivers of years past, the new Street Stock Showdown Series touches down for their first-ever visit. Originally scheduled to be their inaugural event on June 16, Mother Nature rained on that parade forcing the series to kick off at the biggest venue around, New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Corey Hutchings won the event as part of the New England Short Track Showdown.

The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats will also be in action as part of the night’s race card.

Pop up those collars, peg your jeans, break out the Aqua Net, and get to the track early and play along with our 80’s trivia beginning at 6:40 PM.

It should be a radical night!

Story Lines for the Week
  • Turf War – Will one of the Pepsi Limited Sportsman have enough to win the $ 500 in the Street Stock Showdown Series race and defend their turf? There are a couple of drivers entering the event and one or two may be a surprise.
  • Five Fingered Discount –Zach Lyn carried the checkers to his 4th win last week, tops at the speedway. This week he will have to start in the back of the pack so he will have his work cut out for him. Will he steal his 5th win of the season?
  • Baby, It’s Cold Outside – Game time temperature is forecasted to be the lowest it’s been all season.
  • Get Your Point Across – While Dana Smith and Zach Lyn have some breathing room in their points’ battles, the same cannot be said for the Limiteds and Super Streets. The Limiteds are off this week so they will have 3 races left on the schedule when they return next Friday. The Supers are a different story. “Radical” Ricky Bly is 14 points up on Dylan Bodreau and 19 on Jack McClay. Hayden Scott sits in 4th only 31 points behind and then the Craig Smiths are next with the rookie down 56 and the “Original” minus 63. Every position in the heat races are 1 and features are 2.

Next week, September 8, is Superhero and Comic-Con Night at the track. Dress as your favorite superhero and get in the grandstands for only $ 5. The headliner of the night is the Daddy’s Pizza Twin 30’s for the Casella Modifieds. They will be running for an increased purse and segment bonuses. The NorthEast Race Cars Tri Track Open Modified Series has also thrown in bonus money for any driver who has competed with them this year as well. Grandstand admission is only $ 10 for this event. Our Supers, Limiteds, and Wildcats will also be racing.

Racing AGainst Cancer Event - August 25

8/28/2017

Everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it has been a family member, friend, co-worker, or even ourselves, each one of us has in some way felt the impact this disease has on our society. For the second year in a row, Claremont Speedway has tried to do its part to help defeat cancer with its Race Against Cancer Event.

On August 25, 53 race teams throughout the four weekly racing divisions raised funds for the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. With feature event starting positions determined by fundraising totals, drivers solicited donations from sponsors, friends, families, and race fans for over a month prior to the event.

In an on-track ceremony prior to the night’s races, all drivers in attendance presented the Friends of NCCC a check for $ 15,500 to assist them with their mission. “This event is one the race teams look forward to the most,” said Toby Batchelder, event coordinator. “To many of our competitors, this is personal as we have several drivers who currently have family members fighting cancer. Claremont Speedway and its race teams are proud to contribute,” continued Batchelder.

Samantha Stoddard (# 82 Wildcat) was the top fundraiser while Dana Smith (Mods), Jack McClay (Supers), and Joe Tetreault (LS) all secured the pole in their feature event.

Claremont Speedway is located at 282 Thrasher Road in Claremont and operates Friday nights from late April to the end of September. In operation since 1947, Claremont Speedway has provided family-friendly entertainment for generations. Visit www.claremontspeedway.net or like us on Facebook for more information.

Well yet another rainout last week in a season plagued by weather but those thoughts should all be washed away as this Friday night is right at the top of the most memorable nights of any race season. The speedway, its race teams and drivers, and the fans are working together to defeat cancer.

All four Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series divisions – Casella Modifieds, R.E. Hinkley Super Streets, Pepsi Limited Sportsman, and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats – will all be racing to defeat cancer and support the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Starting positions are determined by the amount of money each driver raised. Last year, 5 divisions participated in the night which raised $ 30,000 for the Friends of NCCC.

NASCAR-style driver introductions will take place beginning at 7 PM with racing to follow.

Budweiser will also be having promotional activities in the Beer Garden which opens at 6 PM.

One 2 Go - Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series

This Friday night, the Supers, Limited Sportsman, and Wildcats will hope to make up one of the many rained out events on the season.

The Pepsi Limited Sportsman put on a show last week in their 40-lap special event as David Greenslit was able to take the lead on Lap 7 from 2016 track champion Scott Vien and survived 5 different restarts to pick up his first win of the season and 30th of his racing career. He also became the 7th different winner in 9 events. Joe Tetreault finished 2nd after patiently working his way through the field, while Vien finished 3rd. The “Polish Prince” Tyler Janovsky was able to extend his point lead to 27 points over “Hot Stuff” Kenny Thompson as Thompson finished 10th after having to retire to the pits on Lap 27.

The T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats have turned into the Zach Lyn show as he took the lead on Lap 4 and never looked back to pick up his 3rd win of the season and his 2nd in a row. He was also able to extend his point lead over Dale “Slingshot” Squires Jr. to 32 points. Squires Jr. finished 3rd just behind 2016 track champion Kodi Sabins who came home 2nd.

The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets had a crash-filled event as 9 cautions, a couple of disqualifications, and twisted sheet metal highlighted the race but when the dust settled, Dylan Bodreau became the 8th different winner in 9 races. Ryan Currier posted his career-best finish with a 2nd and rookie Craig Smith finished 3rd. The top 4 drivers are separated by only 15 points in the NCWRS Point Standings.

Story Lines for the Week

  • Mother May I? –Will Mother Nature continue to prove she is not, in fact, a race fan? As this event is a make up on the 6 postponements we have endured this year, the weather does not look good for tomorrow night as rain is forecast. Stranger things have happened.
  • 3-peat? – Can Zach Lyn make it three in a row and visit KIXX Victory Lane for the 4th time this season?
  • Nine Lives – Will a 9th different winner emerge this week in the Supers? Bryan Town, Ben Poland, Joe Brown, and Ryan Currier all are in the top 10 in points still seeking their first win of the year.

Next week, August 25, is our Race Against Cancer Event to benefit the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock. Each driver is raising money which benefits their starting position in the feature event. On-track driver introductions NASCAR style will begin the evening. One 2 Go - STAR Tour And Pepsi Limited Sportsman Special Event

8/10/2017

Picture
Now is your chance to turn back time (now you are probably hearing Cher’s 1989 hit) as the stars and cars of yesteryear visit the speedway for their annual flashback Friday event as many of their Sportsmans and Modifieds competed at our storied oval. Will George Powers take to the front stretch to do his annual on-track start as well?

The Pepsi Limited Sportsman 40-Lap Special Event co-headlines the night’s race card as 15 additional laps have been added to their normal running distance with a sweetened race purse for the field. 12+ cars are anticipated to compete in the full-fendered event won last year by 2016 Track Champion Scott Vien. The division has seen 6 different winners in 8 events this season so will a 7th different winner visit KIXX Victory Lane?

The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats are both in action as well.

Story Lines for the Week
  • Seventh Heaven?  – Will a 7th different winner be crowned tomorrow night? Scott Vien, Tyler Janovsky, Kenny Thompson, Joe Tetreault, Chris Colburn, and Travis Cass all have visited KIXX Victory Lane. David Greenslit and Chris Gilbert having been knocking on the door. Rumor has it area race track competition will also be trying to take home the prize.
  • Going the Extra Mile – 5 miles to be exact. How will the Limited drivers treat the extra distance? Will they try to lead early or sit back and wait?
  • Reshuffle the Deck – The top 5 drivers in the Super Streets are within a 24-point window in the point standings. While we are only at Race 9 on the year, a bad night can reorganize the field at the top.
The Supers, Limited Sportsman, and Wildcats will be racing next week in one of our makeup dates. The following week, August 25, is our Race Against Cancer Event to benefit the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock.

One 2 Go - Race # 9 - Daddy's Pizza Twin 30's For Casella Modifieds

8/3/2017

Picture
Open-wheeled awesomeness headlines the night’s race card with the Daddy’s Pizza Twin 30’s for our Casella Modifieds. Additional monies have been added to the race purse as well as race bonuses for the top 3 for each race. As this is a point race, the starting lineup for the first race will be set by heat races with the field inverted (lead lap cars in the front) in the 2nd race based on their finish from the first. The lowest average finish of both events will be the overall winner with the tiebreaker being the finish in the 2nd race. Last year, Dana Smith was the overall winner with Nick Boivin finishing 2nd and Scott MacMichael placing 3rd.
Dana Smith leads the ground-pounders in points after 4 events with Prospect, CT’s Nick Salva sitting 29 points behind with the “Cornish Comet” Bucky Demers and Chris Bolton down 52 and 53 points respectively. Last time out, Brian Robie picked up his first feature win in a Tour-Type Modified on July 21.

The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets continue to produce strong car counts and last Friday was no different but the winner was for the 7th time this season. 21 cars took the green and when the dust settled, the “Other” Craig Smith in the # 97 grabbed his first career Super Street feature win. “Radical” Ricky Bly, starting shotgun on the field, finished 2nd and took over the points lead while Dylan Bodreau raced his way to 3rd.

After taking a year off from behind the wheel, Travis Cass became the 6th different winner in the Pepsi Limited Sportsman as he passed Chris Gilbert with 3 to go to grab his first win since 2015. Gilbert finished 2nd while the “Polish Prince” Tyler Janovsky came home 3rd. Janovsky leads “Hot Stuff” Kenny Thompson in the points battle by 12 points.

Claremont’s Zach Lyn had the field covered in the T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats to record his 2nd feature win. Samantha Stoddard enjoyed her best run in her two seasons with a runner-up finish while Dale “Slingshot” Squires Jr. finished 3rd. Lyn and Squires are separated in the points by 25.

Story Lines for the Week

  • Is Eight Enough?  – While most of today’s competitors likely won’t remember the television show from the late 70’s and early 80’s, will the R.E. Hinkley Super Streets see an 8th different feature winner this week on the season? Ben Poland, Bryan Town, Dylan Bodreau, Lenny Silver, and Ryan Currier all have top 5’s and still seek the checkers.
  • “Mod” Men – 3 Modified drivers who have raced with us this season qualified for last Saturday’s SBM 125 at Star Speedway. Brian Robie finished 8th, Jeff Gallup was 12th, and Dwight Jarvis was 17th.
  • Using Caution – The NCWRS divisions had only 4 cautions during the entire evening. Racing was completed by 9:20 PM. Will that trend continue? Likely not now that I mentioned it.

Next week is two-fold as the stars and cars of yesteryear are in town and a special event for one of our divisions is on tap. The Senior Tour Auto Racers will be on display after being rained out on June 30. A number of competitors raced previously at Claremont – Bobby Turner, Danny Ferland, and Bob Donahue to name a few. The Pepsi Limited Sportsman special event is next Friday as well with details to be released in the next day or two. The Super Streets and Wildcats will be in action as well.
