CLAREMONT, N.H. – The Sixth Annual Cody LaFont Memorial Race, postponed earlier this summer by rain, will be contested this Friday, June 18, at Claremont Motorsports Park, atop a five-division card of racing at the third-mile speedplant.
The NHSTRA Modifieds will be back in town too, bringing their special brand of thundering excitement to the storied Thrasher Road oval, along with a full slate of competition by the R.E. Hinkley Oil Company Street Stocks, In-City Sugar Shack Mini Stocks, and the Avery Insurance Six Shooters.
Pure Stock powerhouse Joey Jarvis will be gunning to repeat his LaFont Memorial victory of a summer ago when the first of three Pure Stock 20-lappers goes green Friday night.
Jarvis held off Dylan Adams and Alexis Aiken to carry the checkers in 2020, when the tribute race was run as a single 35-lapper. Jarvis, who’s already scored a win this summer, will have his work cut out for him as he goes up against rookie sensation Dylan Zullo – two wins and three runner-up scores already this season- Kodi Sabins, and an All Star cast Friday.
A field of 40 competitors is expected in for this one, with the Pures bringing in 30-plus warriors on a weekly basis in 2021. Twenty positions on Friday’s starting grid for the LaFont Memorial Race were set in pre-rain qualifying on May 28, with the balance of that starting field to be determined in consi rounds.
Andrew Martell won his first career Modified feature when the open-wheeled rocketships were here back on May 14, barely missing a twinbill sweep after finishing second to veteran star Todd Patnode in that event’s nightcap. Geoff Rollins had a pair of top-threes that night, with Sunapee ace Brian Robie – victorious in one of two Modified features last weekend at Monadnock – also having a solid night.
Post time is 7:30 p.m. each Friday at Claremont Motorsports Park, located on Thrasher Road, just a five-minute drive from Claremont’s city center or from I-91 in Vermont.
