Claremont Motorsports Park Sunday, May 25,event story
CLAREMONT, N.H. –The big guns of the Granite State Pro Stock Series were in town Sunday, battling for 125 sizzling laps in the Memorial Day Weekend main event at Claremont Motorsports Park.
Nobody was more impressive, though, than hometrack hot shoe Cody Schoolcraft, who added luster to his high-flying 2025 season start by winning the night’s 60-lap inaugural running of the Todd Martell Memorial race by the R.E. Hinkley Fuels Super Stocks.
Schoolcraft, who won back on April 20 in the speedplant’s Spring Fling weekend, has posted two victories and a runner-up performance this season to lay claim as the man to beat this summer at the fast third.mile.
Wayne Helliwell Jr. won a thriller in the GSPSS 125 Sunday, while Gage Dillingham was a first-time winner in the Pure Stocks, Michael Yeaton topped the Six Shooters, and Carlos Grenier won for the second time this season in the Ridge Runners.
Green Mountain Boy Brandon Gray had an off night in the Super Streets, settling for sixth in the 20-car field, but made up for it in the evening’s nightcap, dominating to win by a country mile in the show-closing 50-lap Enduro.
Robbie Streeter and Schoolcraft sat on row one as the Super Street 60 went green, with Schoolcraft jumping all over the opening lead. Sixty laps later, he was still there, taking the checkers six lengths ahead of 2024 divisional champ Matt Sonnhalter.
Streeter held the deuce slot until Sonnhalter stormed by on lap 33, with Charlie Baldwin’s late-race charge then netting him second, just ahead of Sonnhalter and Justin Beecher, the big money winner a night earlier at Monadnock. Corey Fanning completed the top five.
Casey Call and Joey Pole Jr. started up front as the rock star line-up of GSPSS Pro Stockers began their scorching 125-lap journey Sunday at CMP. Pole was all over the lap-one lead, bringing Wayne Helliwell Jr. – from row two – with him in what would be an intense battle the rest of the race.
Third-place runner DJ Shaw drew the event’s second caution with a lap-94 flat, and Pole and Helliwell again rode under a blanket until Helliwell took over at the point on lap 111. Jeremy Sorel took third from Cole Robie on lap 123 to join Helliwell and Pole on trophy lane.
Firing from row two, Gage Dillingham took the lead from Travis Handt on lap two of the LaValley Building Supply Pure Stock feature and then held off the all-out assault of Kyle Kenny to score the win.
Kenny, who’d bumpered his way past Jimmy Zellman for second on lap 11, finished in Dillingham’s shadow, and Zellman trophied for the second time of the weekend in third. Previous feature winners Carter Conroy and Colton Hull completed Sunday’s top five.
Michael Yeaton swept both his heat and the feature race in Sunday’s Six Shooter competition. The 2024 Monadnock Speedway champion passed 2023 CMP kingpin Steve Miller Jr. on lap nine Sunday and then held strong to score the win.
Miller, who won here back on Spring Fling weekend, stayed close for second, with Bradey Lamotte third and defending track champ Steve Miller Sr. fourth.
Ford pilot Seth Drown led the first seven laps of the JP’s Trucking Ridge Runner feature, with Carlos Grenier then beating him out of turn four to top lap eight before pulling away to win convincingly.
Drown exited on lap 17, with Trevyr Young then moving up to earn the runner-up hardware. Charter Ridge Runner racer James Rhodes came home third.
The Enduro winner was decided quickly, with Brandon Gray taking the lead from fellow oval tracker JD Stockwell on lap two and driving off into another universe to score the win. Stockwell was good for second in the 50-lapper, and Derry, N.H. pilot Shane Garon came home third.
Claremont Motorsports Park will return to action next Friday, May 30, with a full card of NASCAR Advance Auto Parks Weekly Racing Series action, including the Asetwx Tire & Auto Modifieds Tour Type Late Models, R.E. Hinkley Super Streets, and much more. Post time each Friday at CMP is 7 p.m.
