HELLIWELL TOPS SMAC MODS TO LEARY FRIDAY AT CLAREMONT
Claremont Motorsports Park Friday, June 20, event event story

CLAREMONT,NH –George Helliwell crushed the field in Friday’s SMAC Tour Super Modified 50-lap main event at Claremont Motorsports Park. In the 604 Modified feature, Bay State hot shoe Tyler Leary outran Brian Robie to earn the win,
Former speedway king Ben Poland was victorious in the Outlaw Late Models, and Carlos Grenier stayed undefeated on the summer in the Ridge Rubbers.
Conroy muscled his way to the front on the last lap to win his second Pure Stock feature of the season, and Andrew Harmon won Friday’s Dwarf Car feature.

Hometown hot shoes Andrew Brousseau and Bryon Baker led the Asetex Tire & Auto 604 Modifieds to the green Friday, with Brousseau jumping all over the opening lead, followed closely by teen rocker Eddie Gomarlo. Fellow teen star Colton Martin was up for thitd on lap four and, when Brousseau’s ride began to fade on lap 13, Gomarlo then took command. But Gomarlo soon had his mirror filled by Tyler Leary, who took the lead on lap 18, watched Brian Robie rocket into second two go-rounds later, but still held strong to win his first CMP main event of the summer, two lengths faster than Robie, Martin impresses in third, with Gomarlo and Brousseau rounding ou Friday night’s top five.

Taking the lead on a lap six restart in the Super Modified Atlantic Charter main event, George Helliwell then blasted off into another time zone to cruise into Country Fuels Victory Lane Friday at the Thrasher Road speed plant. Slowed by just a single caution – that for PJ Stergios’ bone-crunching meeting with the turn one wall after sudden equipment failure, this one went into tht books quickly. Twelve-second laps have a way of doing that. Rusty Poland was second under the SMAC checkers, and Brad Babb came home third. Six cars finished on the lead lap in the SMAC 50.

Former speedway champion Ben Poland led all the way in the Outlaw Late Model feature, Poland was in a class of his own in this one, finishing far ahead of runner-up Steve Bly. Robbie Streeter, in his first time out in his new ride, finished at Bly’s bumper in third, while defending track champ Guy Caron exited early with mechanical problems.

Travis Handt led most of the way in the LaValley’s Building Supply Pure Stock 25-lapper Friday. Caution-free but action-packed all the way, the Puer Stock main event featured three cars racing under a blanket from start to finish.
Behind Handt, previous winners Carter Conroy and Colton Hull battled back-and-forth all 25 laps, but it was Conroy – with just a touch of front bumper magic taking the lead with the white flag in the air and scoring the win, Hull followed Conroy to come home second, a patient Tyler Wheatley was third, and Handt was shuffled back to fourth, just ahead of JD Stockwell. Both slowed by early mechanical woes, stromgmen Jimmy Zellman and Kyle Kenny finished farther back.
Andrew Harmon took the lead from Jason Hodgdon on lap eight of the New England Dwarf Cars feature and the held off the all-out charge of Tom Harmon to score the win. Cody Hodgdon was third in the fasst-paced event. Harmon and Cody Hodgdon won the heats.
In the JP’s Trucking Ridge Runner nightcap 20-lapper, there were few surprises in trophy row. Carlos Grenier led the final 11 laps to stay undefeated on the season.
James Rhodes led lap one, the giving way to Ford star Seth Drown, Grenier took charge on lap nine, then outrunning Drown to the checkers. Trevyr Young was third on the night,
Claremont Motorsports Park will host one of its biggest event of the season next Friday June 27, when the storied third-mile gets an early jump on Independence Day with its huge annual fireworks display at the conclusion of the night’s NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series event.
