DONAHUE TOPS FRIDAY CLAREMONT LATE MODELS, PURE STOCK THRILLER TO ST. AMOUR
Claremont Motorsports Park Friday, August 8, event story
CLAREMONT, N.H. - There were two drivers bringing undefeated streaks into Friday night’s race at Claremont Motorsports Park, and one red-hot Modified hot shoe threatening to run away with the 2025 championship points race if the pack couldn’t slow his domination of the open-wheel missile division.
At the night's event, only Kyle Templeton went home with the hope of a perfect season still very much in his reach. And then there was Brian Robie.
Robie outran top gun Tyler Leary to top the night’s 604 Modified main event and, with the victory, move to almost 90 points ahead of Leary - who moved up to second in the championship points chase with Friday’s runner-up finish - as the season fast closes on its 2025 stretch run.
Other winners Friday included Andrea St. Amour, who outran a large field to score her first Pure Stock win of the season, Stephen Donahue, victorious in the Tour Type Late Models, Ron Burgess Jr.winning his first Ridge Runner feature, and, of course, Templeton, still perfect on the summer in the Mini Stocks.
When Leo Martin - he of nearly three decades leading the pack to battle aboard the speedway pace car -led the Asetex Tire & Auto 604 Modifieds to the green, the field was on notice. Someone had to act now to slow Robie’s march to another CMP championship.
Cole Littlewood blasted to the early lead, with his mirror filled by Leary on lap seven. He, in turn, had Robie soon glued to his bumper. The dynamic duo would race wheel-to-wheel and nose-to-tail until Robie inched ahead on lap 18.
Slowed only by one harmless lap-16 looper, this one was quickly in the books, with Robie completing his perfect 60-point night six lengths ahead of Leary. Jeremy Zullo impressed in third, with Littlewood and Guy Caron rounding out the top five.
It’s becoming a weekly trend in the Tour Type Late Models that whoever gets to the front first between Stephen Donahue and Aaron Fellows will likely win, Friday, it was Donahue’s turn.
Craig Smith led the first ten laps, then giving way to Donahue, with Fellows rocketing into second a lap later, The potent pair would remain that way, five lengths apart, until Donahue took the checkers., as the Graniteville, VT star added Friday’s win to another scored elsewhere on Thursday for memorable back-to-back victories.
Rookie Late Model hot shoe Aiden White avoided a final lap looper to score his first top three, with Pat Patten and Craig Smith rounding out the top five.
Travis Handt took the lap-one lead as the: Lavalley Building Supply Pure Stocks - 20 strong - went to war. Bay State blaster Jimmy Zellman, though, was quick to the front, taking control on lap two and threatening to run away with the show.
Chris Chambers wasn’t letting Zellman get away, staying close behind while his step daughter, Andrea St, Amour, from row four, charged to the front. Second in points by the slimmest of margins a year ago, St. Amour was determined to win her first of the year.
She got up for second on lap 12, then racing with Zellman under a blanket until he opened the door ever so little on lap 17 and, with a little front bumper magic, St. Amour had the lead and, eight laps later, her first 2025 victory lap. Zellman had an important points chase victory in second, and Chambers impressed in third.
Friday’s Pure Stock finish had a big impact in the race to the title. Both Carter Conroy - mechanical problems - and Kyle Kenny, the winner a week ago, finished way out of the money. Kenny, his ride heavily wrecked mid-race, was credited with 18th, with Conroy in 19th. Top points man Colton Hull recovered from a lap-11 jingle to come home fourth, still atop the leader board.
RaceDay TV Mini Stock titan Kyle Templeton stayed perfect on the summer, adding Friday night’s victory to his long and growing list of 2025 wins at the Thrasher Road speedplant, Templeton took the lead from ageless wonder Wally Brown on lap one and never looked back.
Carlos Grenier’s bid for an undefeated season in the JP’s Trucking RIdge Runners came to an end in the tech line Friday. First under the checkers, his ride then failed its post-race technical inspection, handing the victory, his first at the CMP oval, to Ron Burgess Jr.
Burgess, with the Friday night win,. Trevyr Young came home second on the night, with Brianna Buck a career-best in third.
Claremont Motorsports Park will be back in action with a special Wicked Wednesday event this Wednesday, August 13, when the Super Street Summer Showdown series returns to CMP atop a full card of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series events. There will be no racing on Friday, August 15, at CMP.
